Our Mission:
Youth Voices for Mental Health is a youth-led initiative that empowers middle school students to build mental health resilience by providing resources and tools for self help.
Our Vision:
To build a nationwide network of teen mental health advocates who educate the youth in their community using the resources and programs developed by the organization. We aspire for all youth to feel confident in preventing and addressing mental health challenges either through self help or reaching out.
Background
Starting in middle school, I began experiencing stress often and noticed the same happening to my peers. I decided to research what science says about well-being and mental resilience, which sparked my interest in mental health advocacy. In December 2023, I reached out to Mr. Wiseman, the CEO of a mental health organization, BeingWellCA, to co-develop and co-teach a mental health course for adults. This was done through LEAD, a training event in Boy Scouts.
When the time came to embark on my Eagle Project for Eagle Rank in Scouts, I wanted to build on my passion for mental health advocacy. This Eagle Project furthered my interest in mental health. Once I completed it, I realized that this project had the potential to become something greater. I began to brainstorm ways in which I could expand this project to make it more impactful, which led us to where we are now.
